YTO BARRADA

Yto Barrada's personal history is intimately interwoven with her photography, video and sculptural work. Barrada was born in Paris and educated in Tangier, and her work is informed by her experience of living both within and betweeen these two parallel geopolitcal realities: between the Occident and the Orient, between hope and despair. Using film and photography, Barrada presents the viewer with a series of snapshots of everyday life that have symbolic signigicance on both a personal and political level in a format that operates beyond the confines of the traditional documentary aesthtic.
